Hawkesbury candidate Karen Mingarelli says she brings fresh eyes and expertise to the 2018 municipal election

There is definitely no shortage of interesting candidates for the Hawkesbury 2018 municipal election.

Among the newcomers is resident artist Karen Mingarelli, who is not only a newcomer in the political race, but to the town of Hawkesbury as well, providing a fresh outlook on the town.

A public service veteran, Mingarelli aims at bringing her expertise to council in terms of revenue.

“Everybody talks about bringing in revenue, creating tourism, jobs, boardwalks… but how? Nobody wants their taxes to go up and they’re high enough here. I worked in government for 23 years in Halifax and Ottawa, so I know municipal, provincial and federal. I know my way around the minutiae of the government application process.”

When speaking of applications, Mingarelli refers to government grants or subsidies. For her, these available funds are just what Hawkesbury needs to step up its game.

“I have the personality for it. I persevere and I don’t give up until it works.”

Mingarelli’s fresh take on the town is interesting on its own. She chose Hawkesbury for her retirement, taking advantage of what the town has to offer. For her, this positive outlook mixed with the fact that she is new to the political scene represents a clear advantage.

“I can’t be influenced by anybody. I don’t owe anybody any favours or vice versa. I’m free to look around and decide how I can help.”

The next municipal and school elections will be held on Monday October 22nd, 2018. The town’s electors will have to elect one Mayor and six councillors. More information can be found on the town’s website, including information about the electronic voting process, at hawkesbury.ca.
