The Cassburn United Church Sunday School group has collected $147 from its weekly allowances to donate to Opportunity Knox in support of Syrian refuges. After a visit from a Syrian refugee family to Cassburn in early 2017, the children decided to pool their money in an effort to help bring more refugees to Vankleek Hill. The children heard the refugees’ harrowing story and listened to their challenging experiences of starting a new life in Ontario. All the children wanted to help by donating to the organization called Opportunity Knox, which is a volunteer group raised in Vankleek Hill, working to bring Syrian refugees to that community.
