Last call at Resto-Bar Long Sault
Over 50 firefighters responded to a fire at the Hotel du Long Sault, in Grenville, on Monday night, where they arrived to find the hotel completely ablaze.
"We received the call at 3:25 a.m, and Grenville firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes. When we we pulled up at 3:31 a.m, fire was shooting out of the roof and the second story was on fire. The big convoy of firefighters from Lachute, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge and Harrington arrived at around 3:40 a.m.," said Grenville Fire Chief Marc Aubry from the scene of the investigation Tuesday morning.
According to Aubry, the fire started in the back of the building and was reported to 9.1.1., when flames were spotted coming from the building. The bar was closed when the fire started and no one was inside, nor was anyone injured by the fire, including the many firefighters who responded to the alarm.
"It took us about two hours to get the fire under control and by 5:30 a.m., the fire was stabilized. The building is a total loss", said Aubry.
Lachute was on scene at the fire with their ladder truck and Harrington firefighters arrived with their new pumper truck to douse the flames surrounding the firefighters on the ladder truck and to haul water to combat the blaze.
"Everyone is remarking on what an incredible scene it was to see so many firefighters responding to such a large fire and to see so many trucks operating together. It took three trucks just to keep the Lachute ladder truck operating", said Harrington Fire Chief Neil Swail.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been started and there is no estimate as yet on the cost of damages.
