There is no question that suicide, particularly among youth, is a major issue in the Prescott-Russell region and beyond.
According to Dr. Suzanne Filion, manager and clinical supervisor at the Royal Comtois Centre, statistics are alarming and tell us something we cannot afford to dismiss – that young people in the region are struggling with mental health issues and many feel suicide is the only answer.

Some common signs of suffering
- Feelings of hopelessness of worthlessness, depressed mood, poor self-esteem or guilt.
- Cling toward friends or withdrawal from friends, family and activities.
- Changes of eating or sleeping patterns feeling tired or exhausted all the time.
- Trouble concentrating, struggling in school, rapid grades drop.
- Restless, irritable, agitated or anxious moods and behaviours.
- Heightened emotions or regular crying.
- Neglect of personal care.
- Reckless or impulsive behaviours.
- Persistent physical symptoms such as headaches or other chronic pain.
- Thoughts or talking about death or suicide
