The Vankleek Hill winter carnival kicks off this weekend, but there is still lots of time to register for the carnival talent show, which takes place on Sunday, January 31 at 2 p.m. Performers of all ages are invited to participate in one of the following three categories: dance, vocal and variety.

Martintown-area artist Karen Spinney recently brought her program, Art for Kids, to the school in an effort to give students a greater appreciation for the arts.

The Town of Hawkesbury and the Le Chenail cultural centre welcome the public to celebrate the town’s 150th anniversary with live music, art installations and exhibitions from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29.
“We’ll have something for everyone,” said Hawkesbury mayor Jeanne Charlebois. “From Hawkesbury to the world, this is a celebration of the cultural history of our town.”

The fourth-annual Colours on the Bay show in Rockland was quite a success, say organizers.

Thirty-four artists attended this year's show and displayed more than 450 paintings in different styles.

Proceeds from sales went towards Operation 20/20, a fundraising endeavor of the Cancer Unit of the Ottawa Hospital.

A concert featuring the last performing member of the Don Messer Jubilee has sold out.
Johnny Forrest, 73, who appeared for years on the popular CBC television country music revue, will be performing in Maxville on October 23.
The concert is a benefit for the Glengarry Pioneer Museum and will recreate some of the music that kept Canadians’ toes tapping for years.

The amateur theatre troupe of Argenteuil is presenting several Friday nights of performance at Christ Church of Saint-André-d'Argenteuil - with the express goal of raising money for renovations to Saint-Mungo, a neighbouring church in Brownsburg-Chatham.

A giant pumpkin contest will be held in Vankleek Hill on October 4.

The contest weigh-in takes place at the Country Depot from noon to 3 p.m.

Last year’s winner was Louise Mallette, who brought in a pumpkin weighing an incredible 894 pounds.

There will also be contests for smallest pumpkin and other categories.

The Glengarry Pioneer Museum held its Harvest Festival on September 20.

The day included agricultural demonstrations as well as one of the largest horse-drawn carriage and wagon parades in Eastern Ontario.

The Glengarry Music Festival is continuing this summer. However the festival has decided to try different venues.

On September 19, Alexandria will welcome Juno-winner Ray Bonneville at the Atlantic Hotel.

The Johnny Max Quartet is also travelling from Toronto and will be playing at Beau’s Brewery on September 27.

Later this fall, on November 17, the Stephen Barry and Andrew Cowan duo will be playing at the Blueberry Hill Bistro in Vankleek Hill with a show at the Georgian House in Alexandria the following night.

ALEXANDRIA - There were no covered wagons in Alexandria last weekend, but the Tabac jr's Little Nashville Country Festival welcomed more than 500 Rvs.

The 78th Fraser Highlanders won the North American Championship under sunny and warm conditions, marking the band's record fifteenth North American Championship, Hamilton Police won Grade 2. The 78th Fraser Highlanders prevailed despite finishing second in both Grade 1 events.

TORONTO – Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MPP Jean-Marc Lalonde recently announced $308,700 in grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for 10 local groups.
The Arbor Gallery Centre for Contemporary Art in Vankleek Hill will receive $89,000 over two years to hire a curator responsible for programs and educational activities and enhancing community awareness of the visual arts.
