Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced on April 3, 2020, a revision to what an essential construction is. As a result, the City of Clarence-Rockland is no longer issuing building permits as of 11:59 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020. It will accept all new applications and will process them accordingly but will resume issuing permits only once the state of emergency is lifted.

The list of essential construction defined by the province include:

— Construction projects and services associated with the healthcare sector;

—  Residential construction projects where;

— a footing permit has been granted for single family, semi-detached and townhomes

— an above grade structural permit has been granted for condominiums, mixed use and other buildings, or

— the project involves renovations to residential properties and construction work was started before April 4,

—  Construction and maintenance activities necessary to temporarily close construction sites that have paused or are not active and to ensure ongoing public safety.
