Champlain Township is stepping up enforcement measures during the state of emergency, adding its efforts to the containment of the coronavirus.

Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA), Municipal By-Law Enforcement Officers have been given the authority to enforce special measures while the province remains in a state of emergency  which include:

  • Non-essential businesses that continue to operate;
  • People congregating in parks or using park amenities or equipment;
  • Gatherings of more than five people.

The township notes that its by-Law enforcement officers will proactively monitor and respond to calls with an educational approach to these new measures and will inform residents to the importance of following these rules.

Residents who witness these behaviours can leave a message at 613-675-4727 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   For complaints after hours and for complaints regarding the non-compliance of mandatory quarantine call the Ontario Provincial Police’s non-emergency line at 613-446-5124.

Champlain Township thanks residents for their cooperation during these difficult times.
